Posters have long served as a vital medium for resistance, using bold visuals and clear messaging to amplify collective struggles and inspire change. Resist! spotlights over a century of international poster design, from peace appeals and environmental activism to bold declarations of human rights and sharp critiques of power.
The posters featured in Resist! span diverse movements, time periods, and visual strategies. Some confront viewers with dystopian warnings or emotional appeals; others challenge authority through irony, satire or hopeful visions of the future. Symbols like the raised fist or dove of peace reappear across decades, continually reimagined by new generations.
Drawing from the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich’s renowned Poster Collection, including works by individual designers and activist collectives alike, Resist! highlights how visual communication and political commitment intersect. The book powerfully reminds us how the evolving aesthetics of resistance continue to shape our shared hopes for a better future.
